Exposed Artist Statement
Exposed is a journey to wholeness, a state I believe we enter the world when we are born and slowly lose along our way. This body of work was created by embracing the world through the eyes of my four year old daughter. Her creative process is uninhibited by the imposition of outside influence. During the process of creating this work, I checked my “grown up” self at the studio door and allowed myself to experience the emotions arising while painting. With each child like mark, the judgement of others, held less and less clout. The shackles of societal gaze were unlocked and my authentic self was exposed. I was able to connect with my inner child, find my voice, and feel an attachment with my daughter.
